Fatigue Resistant, Multiple Axes (FX, FY, & FZ ) Force
Sensor - Model M361-15KN

Problem
A European manufacturer of "luxury" automobiles had a requirement for a three (3) axis force sensor to measure vehicle dynamics in a new "state-of theart" ride simulator dynamometer. They needed one (1) sensor for each wheel. According to the European manufacturer the ride simulator was designed to enhance the response characteristics of simulated dynamic road conditions. Specifications for the sensors emphasized performance, i.e. "high stiffness" in each axis of the multiple axis sensor, that there be "zero tolerance" for cross talk error, that the sensor have a "high resistance" to off-axis loading, and that the sensor be "compact" and extremely "rugged." Obviously, more had to be learned about the multiple axis sensors before SensorData could proceed with the project.

Solution:
SensorData first consulted with the client to establish a detailed set of specifications for the multiple axis force sensor. After obtaining detailed specifications and after consultation with the client SensorData decided to design a relatively small multiple axes force sensor. Stiffness would be greater than required by the client to be assured that the sensor's frequency response was sufficient to provide true measurement tracking throughout the complete dynamic range of the dynamometer. The client specified 1% for cross talk, but in the design SensorData once again did more than was expected of them. In practice the cross talk was actually closer to ±0.5%. The European automobile manufacturer determined in actual use that the four (4) M361-15KN sensors combined to provide results that exceeded the specifications and performance stipulated at the time of order and would buy again f rom S ensor Data.

Special Applications
SensorData welcomes and encourages inquiries for special load and force sensors, torque sensors and multi-component force sensors that incorporate strain gage technology. After consultation with a factory representative SensorData will endeavor to provide the client with a proposal for a sensor that represents a competent and practical solution.
